the first time you hear

"Papua New Guinea (MNN) ― Providing God's Word in the heart language of a people group is a key to evangelism, discipleship and church planting. Without it, people hear the words, but sometimes those words get lost in translation. That's exactly what happened to the Siar People of Papua New Guinea."

The Gospel is proclaimed for the first time among the Siar

"How then will they call on Him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how will they hear without a preacher? How will they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GOOD NEWS OF GOOD THINGS”.  However, they did not all heed the good news; for Isaiah says, “LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT" So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ." ~ Romans 10:14-17

food is essential

There was a reminder on Facebook today that there are 24000 people daily who die from hunger.  I don't know, or care, where this number came from.  It works as a catalyst.

For those who might want to do something, might I suggest Heifer International, Feed The Children, Samaritan's Purse, American Red Cross, ANY local food bank, ANY local homeless shelter, if you attend a church ask your pastor/priest/rabbi/monk/sectarian leader, etc. about your church's outreach program. There are literally hundreds of opportunities here and abroad waiting for your helping hand or checks. GIVE!

Your local utility probably also accepts donations of any amount to be added to your monthly payment that will go to local shelters and assistance with utility payments for those in dire need. Also Meals On Wheels can hook you up with local opportiunities to assist elderly shut-ins.

Samaritan's Purse

Where there is a need, a disaster, an epidemic, a catastrophe of unusual magnitude, you'll find Samaritan's Purse to be one of the first on the scene.

Shelter, food, water, medicine, life.

Christmas in your Heart

I just reviewed a gospel tract from the Fellowship Tract League that delivered a pretty good message about the greatest Christmas gift ever given, the Gift of Life.  The following link will enable you to read the flash version of the message, either for yourself or possibly to share with others.

The Fellowship Tract League has been supplying gospel tracts free of charge to missions and individual around the world since 1978.

superheroes

"Superheroes are strong, cool, helpful men and women. You can depend on them in every kind of way to help when you need help, to fight for justice, to protect the weak, and to defend the world."

My young friend Caleb wrote these words in a recent essay, and as I read them I considered some of the roles of the church.

James 1:27 Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself unstained by the world.

In Matthew 25:34-36, Jesus said, Then the King will say to those on His right, "Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you took care of Me; I was in prison and you visited Me."

In our American culture, we often look to the government to provide care for the sick, the poor, the hungry, the homeless, the misguided and the lost; but that's not what our Father in heaven had in mind. We, the church, are blessed to be a blessing.

God gave Himself for us. He desires us to give ourselves to others, to be super heroes to those in need, "in every kind of way to help when you need help, to fight for justice, to protect the weak, and to defend the world.".

We who call ourselves by the Name of The Lord have a mission. Let's work together to fulfill that mission.
